Why Motors Fail

Like any other machine or machine part, motors require ongoing maintenance and may still break down even with the most meticulous maintenance schedule. There are several reasons motors fail. The underlying reason(s) in each case ultimately determines whether an AC or DC motor repair is possible, how long it will take and the overall cost.

There are six main reasons your motor may have failed and our team of trained technicians will take careful steps to identify that cause. Here are some possible factors to consider:

  • Electrical overload
  • Low resistance
  • Overheating

  • Vibration
  • Moisture
  • Dirt

If you believe work conditions at your site may make any of the factors above more likely, be sure to pass this on to the technicians. This may help them to complete their evaluation more quickly.

Why Not Fix It Yourself?

Chances are that you’ve been in your line of business for a while. Even if the company is new, you probably had tons of experience working in your industry. Over time, you may have become accustomed to large machinery and understand well how they work and what the potential causes for malfunction may be. Naturally then, you may feel tempted to attempt either a DC motor repair or AC motor repair on your own.

We strongly advise against this. The moving parts of the motors and the high voltage could lead to loss of limb or life. No matter how handy you may be, this is not a risk worth taking. Note that even a motor that is not powered can prove dangerous because the capacitors may still be powered up for some time.

Our Work Process

There is more to industrial repairs than the repair itself. We understand that you want the motor fixed and back at your worksite as soon as possible. We do the following to make this possible:

  • We complete a thorough inspection to look for visible indications of the most common causes.
  • Once the technicians identify the problem, we complete the necessary work to get the motor back to working condition.
  • After completing the repairs, we test the motor under similar work conditions or loads that it will undergo while back at your worksite to ensure it is once again operating normally.
  • We document the entire repair process to ensure that you have a full report of what we did and why, as well as how the motor held up to testing.

The Available Parts

A motor is only as good as its components and installation. So, we rely on OEM parts or their equivalent for rebuilding and repairing motors. We keep up to $5 million worth of parts stocked to ensure we always have what we need to serve you.

In the event of an old motor with parts that may have now become obsolete, our engineers may still be able to design and recreate the parts necessary so we can get your motor up and running again in due time.
