Kessler Spindle Re-manufacturing Services

When your Franz Kessler spindles require re-manufacturing, K+S repair can do that. Our five-step analysis process, which we do prior to any repair work, includes the following:

  1. Incoming vibration analysis
  2. Assembled spindle inspection
  3. Disassembled spindle inspection
  4. Bearing condition
  5. Engineering recommendations

Analysis

Finding out exactly what problems your Kessler spindle or Kessler Motor has is the first step of the process. Our experienced technicians thoroughly inspect and examine each spindle, including doing an incoming vibration analysis that assesses the bearing condition, level of unbalance, and the non-repetitive runout.

Assembled Spindle Inspection

If your spindle is assembled, our inspection includes the
following:

  • An inspection of the pilot ID or taper runout on
the tool end of the shaft to assess possible improper tooling and the
    likelihood of a spindle crash
  • An inspection of the rear taper runout to assess
possible over tightening of belts and/or improper tooling
  • A preload test to assess bearing wear and/or the
    possibility of a spindle crash

Disassembled Spindle Inspection

If your spindle is disassembled, our inspection includes the
following:

  • An inspection of the pilot ID or taper runout on
the tool end of the shaft to assess possible improper tooling and the
    likelihood of a spindle crash
  • An inspection of the bearing journal to
determine whether or not the bearing fits and/or the spindle has been used
    after its initial failure
  • An inspection to determine the overall shaft
condition, whether or not it has sufficient coolant, whether or not it is or
has been overloaded, and the possibility of a crash

Bearing Condition Analysis

While our spindle repair technicians look at your Kessler spindle’s bearings during their initial assessments, our factory-trained bearing specialists then inspect them under lab conditions. This lets them find such things as the following:

  • Lack of lubrication
  • Overspeeding
  • Overloading
  • Loss of preload
  • Contamination in the coolant and other materials
  • Overheating due to electrical problems

Engineering Recommendations

Once we conclude all our analyses and tests, K+S Repair then makes specific recommendations to you regarding the Kessler spindle or Kessler Motor design changes or enhancements you should let us implement so as to improve your spindle’s life and its performance during it.

Full-service Repair Capabilities

When it comes time to repair or recondition your spindle, K+S Repair Service can do it all. If you do not wish to remove the spindle from your machine, our technicians can come to your site to do it. And we don’t just repair your spindle and hope it works. No, we thoroughly test your repaired Franz Kessler spindle to make sure that all its interfacing parts, such as its encoders, proximity switches, etc., function properly. In addition, all repaired or reconditioned spindles must pass our vibration analysis. Once your spindle is ready for reinstallation, we put it back on your machine and then retest everything for performance and reliability.
